Loft14 Sky Bar – Cocktails with a View

I’ve been to some stunning ‘sky bars’ in the past, but quite often find that whilst the views are usually spectacular, the cocktails often fall short. It’s as if the views alone should satisfy, and the cocktails and service are an afterthought (and usually seriously over-priced!).

At Loft14 in Berlin, however, not only were the views wonderful, but the cocktails were fun, creative and absolutely delicious! Some real classics and some unique innovations – all served with a little twist of Berlin…

The bar manager Fabian Buhtz and his team are very creative when it comes to their cocktail menu. You can expect amazing flavour combinations, infusions and foams (the coconut foam was so yum!!). For example, I tried a pink peppercorn-cucumber-vodka infusion, with ginger foam, pink grapefruit and lemon juice. It was MAGICAL! All our drinks were served in beautiful glassware, anything from vintage-looking coupe to tiki.

The sky bar itself is based on the 14th floor of Vienna House Andel’s Berlin, a stylish four-star hotel. Here you can enjoy stunning panoramic views of the Berlin skyline (the building is 65m high). I found the venue a calm and relaxing place to sip cocktails or to simply lose myself in the sophisticated ambiance as I gazed from East to West Berlin and back again. The décor at Skybar is inviting with its big armchairs, velvet sofas and subtle lighting. The colours of the venue are a combination of soft pinks, silver greys and mustard yellows; classy yet unpretentious.

Loft14 makes a great venue for a relaxed catch-up with friends or a romantic date night when you are looking to impress. There is also a Michelin-starred restaurant on the floor below should you wish to treat yourself to a tasty meal in a beautiful restaurant. The style of Skykitchen is in line with the bar area.

It might be a bit far from the city centre, about a ten-minute taxi trip from Alexanderplatz, but this sky bar is well worth the journey. You can also get a tram or U-Bahn very close to the hotel.

Cocktails are priced at around €12–15, which I think is great value for that special date or other occasion. So enjoy the views, enjoy the service and treat yourself to drinks that are on another level…
