6 Delicious Espresso Martini Recipes

Women holding an espresso martini

Time to add yet another drink event in your diary, Espresso Martini Day is celebrated on the 15th of March each year. Below I’ve gathered some of my favourite pick-me-up coffee cocktail recipes (no Parmesan Espresso Martinis here, I promise!) for you to try at home.

Which one is your favourite?

Vanilla-flavoured Espresso Martini is possibly the tastiest variation ever. You could also infuse the vodka with a real vanilla bean, just swap the vanilla syrup for a classic sugar syrup.

50ml Vodka (I used Absolut)

25ml Kahlua

Double Espresso

10ml Vanilla Syrup

Shake all ingredients with ice and double strain into a cocktail glass. Garnish with coffee beans.

This recipe is based on the one I found from the Hoxton Spirits website. I find Borghetti Liqueur stronger than Kahlua, therefore I usually only use a single shot of espresso with it.

50ml Hoxton Banana Rum

20ml Coffee Liqueur (I used Borghetti Espresso Liqueur)

Single Espresso

7.5ml Falernum (I used MONIN Syrup)

Shake well with ice and double strain into a cocktail glass. Garnish with coffee beans or cinnamon sugar.

Bepi Tosolini Smoked Grappa is worth a try. The distillate is aged for 12 to 18 months in 225-litre French oak barriques, which have been toasted and smoked by burning oak flakes and Kentucky tobacco leaves.

35ml Bepi Tosolini Smoked Grappa

20ml Walnut Amaro

Espresso

1 barspoon of Maple Syrup

Shake all ingredients with ice and double train into a cocktail glass. Garnish with coffee beans.

Two Birds English Vodka was infused with chocolate and peppermint to create this delicious mint spirit (29% ABV). As it is lower in alcohol by volume, I decided to pair it with Ramsbury Single Estate Vodka as it has notes of cocoa and caramel. If you are looking for a new vodka to try, I can’t recommend it enough.

35ml Two Birds Spirits After Dinner Mint Spirit

20ml Vodka (I used Ramsbury)

20ml Coffee Liqueur (I used Nunquam Liquore di Caffé)

Espresso

Shake all ingredients with ice and double train into a cocktail glass. Garnish with coffee beans.

Hoxton Spiced Whisky is bottled at 40% ABV so it is not a sweet whisky liqueur. The whisky is infused with cinnamon, orange, vanilla, raisins, anise, cocoa and nutmeg. It’s very tasty and works well in many cocktails or just sip it on its own.

50ml Hoxton Spiced Whisky

20ml Walnut Amaro

10ml Demerara Sugar Syrup

Double Espresso

Shake all ingredients with ice and double train into a cocktail glass. Garnish with coffee beans.

Well this is not an Espresso Martini per se, but it is divine and worth the effort! Also, you MUST get a bottle of Bouvery CV Chocolate Liqueur, it is to die for!

35ml Rum (I used Santiago de Cuba Anejo)

20ml Coffee Liqueur (I used Borghetti Espresso Liqueur)

20ml Dark Chocolate Liqueur (Bouvery CV Chocolate Liqueur)

15ml MONIN Tiramisú Syrup

Whipped Cream

Cocoa Powder

First whip the cream, but don’t make it too thick. Shake all the ingredients (except the cream) in a cocktail shaker with ice. Strain into a cocktail glass and gently spoon the cream on top. Garnish with cocoa powder.
