Rather than eat the Easter chocolate, why not just drink it? There are some very tasty chocolatey bottles available that offer a great alternative to Easter eggs and bunnies. Below you can find suggestions from luscious, sweeter-style whiskies to chocolate orange gins to downright opulent liqueurs.
Chocolatey Whisky Bottles
Scallywag Chocolate Editon 2024, 48% ABV
This is a must-have blended malt scotch whisky from Douglas Laing. Scallywag is the Speyside blend from their Remarkable Regional Malts range. It’s first matured in ex-sherry casks, followed by a lengthy secondary maturation in ex-port casks to elevate those chocolate notes. Think of Nutella, chocolate-coated berries, hazelnuts, coconut, cinnamon, dates, etc. It’s a journey of dessert flavours without being sickly.

Signet single malt has been a popular release for a while now. It’s chocolatey, espresso, coffee cake deliciousness. Once a year the distillery uses chocolate malt to create the spirit for their Signet release. It is aged in a combination of bourbon, sherry and virgin oak casks. The bottling has some of the oldest stock from the distillery. Personally, I preferred the original Signet to the latest Signet Reserve, which was more berried and less chocolatey. Overall, it is a nice whisky but, looking at the price, I would go for the classic Signet.
A fusion of American ex-bourbon, tawny port and peated malt brought together in a final maturation in first-fill tawny port casks. If you enjoy a port influence in your whisky, then this is something worth trying. The sweeter notes from the bourbon casks, the fruitiness from the port and the gentle peat smoke all work in harmony. Expect notes of milk chocolate, strawberry jam and caramel wafers with a hint of coffee and subtle smoke. Very easy sipping and as a bonus has a lovely pinkish hue!

Tomatin Palo Cortado 15-Year-Old, 46% ABV
A limited-edition release from Tomatin distillery. This was part of their Sherry Collection and saw a three-year finish in Palo Cortado casks. In line with Tomatin Distillery style, this is a lighter whisky, so even with notes of tiramisu, dried orange, rich milk chocolate, Brazil nuts and vanilla, it is not overly sweet or overpowering in any way.
GlenAllachie 10-Year-Old CS (Batch 11), 59.4% ABV
As we are searching for those chocolatey notes, the combination of casks (PX sherry, Oloroso, red wine and virgin oak) work especially well in GlenAllachie 10yo Batch 11. You will get chocolate on the nose and even more on the palate. Dark chocolate, chocolate-coated nuts, dark red berries and toffee. Superb!

Easter Gins
Tarquin’s ‘Tonquin’ Tonka Bean & Clementine Gin, 42% ABV
This Tarquin’s gin is perfect for spring! The tonka bean adds luxurious notes of vanilla, coconut, sour cherry and dark chocolate to this intriguing gin. Clementine brings a touch of freshness. Enjoy with Mediterranean tonic water and a slice of orange.
Elephant Orange & Cocoa Gin, 40% ABV
Another chocolate orange gin to wet your whistle. The German Elephant Gin was made by adding cocoa beans to the still to give a velvety texture to its zesty orange notes. Try it in a Negroni.

Chocolate Rum Bottles
You may have seen Jaffa Cake Gin before, but now the same makers have added real Jaffa cakes into a Caribbean rum, together with oranges and cocoa powder. The outcome is juicy, cakey and chocolatey. Try it in a Rum Old Fashioned or a Daiquiri.
Wild Oxen Chocolate Rum, 40% ABV
This chocolatey rum is made at Abingdon distillery in Oxfordshire. The rum is macerated with cacao shells from Peru to add notes of dark chocolate, salted caramel, vanilla and fudge. This calls for a Rum Old Fashioned or an Espresso Martini.

Lucious Liqueurs
Two Birds After Dinner Mint & Vodka, 29% ABV
Two Birds English Vodka made into an ideal after-dinner drink by the British Honey Company. Delicious notes of rich chocolate and fresh peppermint, basically an After Eight in liquid form. Add it into a hot chocolate or an Espresso Martini.
Dark Matter Chocolate & Orange Liqueur, 20% ABV
This is a delicious mix of dark chocolate and Seville orange from the Scottish rum distillery Dark Matter. Pour it over ice or add to a cocktail.

Aluna Coconut Coffee Liqueur, 25% ABV
Aluna Coconut Rum is flavoured further with cold brew coffee, cacao nibs and black cardamom. It’s a perfect combination of toasted coconut, dark chocolate and roasted coffee with a hint of vanilla. Add a good measure to your coffee or make an Espresso Martini.

Tinta e Cinco 35 Crème Pastel de Nata, 14.5% ABV
This is not a chocolatey liqueur, but I think the notes still work well with the Easter celebrations. Tinta e Cinco 35 is a cream liqueur from Portugal that combines the sweetness of creamy milk with a traditional Portuguese custard egg tart, Pastel de Nata. Serve as a digestive with or without ice with a little sprinkle of cinnamon.
Bouvery CV Chocolate Liqueur, 16% ABV
This rich and indulgent chocolate liqueur from Bouvery CV is THE best! It has a thick, creamy texture, like melted dark chocolate. The liqueur is made with vodka, cocoa and dairy. Produced at Westford Hill Distillers in Connecticut.
